Weight loss diary | Week 1

Now, before you carry on reading this post, I want to tell you that it's inspired by Hannh Lucy's blog. So, make sure you check hers out first!

Now, I've been an off and on member at slimming world for quite some time now, about 2 or 3 years probably. And I've never gotten to my goal as I never stuck to it long enough to lose more than 2 stone.

As I mentioned in my last post, I've recently got back from my holiday. And when I go on holiday, I definitely let my diet go out the window.

Before I went on holiday, I managed to lose around a stone in about 8 weeks, which I was pretty impressed with. But my holiday definitely didn't do any good to that. So this was my first week back at Slimming World.

Honestly, I haven't been 100% on it this week at all. I find it hard to get back into the swing of the diet stuff when I've been eating what I want for 11 days!

I've had a few sweets (strawberry laces and bonbons.... maybe a couple of oreos) that were laying around, left over from my birthday, but to be honest, I haven't eating as much as I was on holiday so it must have been a shock to my system because I managed to lose 5 and a half pound this week! I was absolutely shocked! I've had a pork sandwich from the butchers, a 6inch subway, everything I shouldn't have and that's happened! I honestly have no idea how. It must be magic.

But, as I didn't do very well this week, and I think my weight loss was a fluke, I'm going to start making a little diary of what I eat on here and hopefully, that will make me a stay a little focused and more on track with stuff :) And maybe even help some of you who follow my blog! It's going to be even harder for me now though, as I've just started college and therefore, no time for exercise. But, I'll just have to be extra good!

Health benefits: Cold showers

Now, I don't know if many of you know this but cold showers actually have a lot of health benefits! It's a bit strange for me to write this post in the middle of September when Winter is just around the corner, but I thought I'd let you guys know about it as a lot of people grimace and are horrified at the thought of showering in cold water! But if, like me, you enjoy a nice warm shower, just turn the temperature down for the last 5 or so minutes of your shower. It's not as bad as you'd think!

Hair & Skin

Hot water is quite drying for our skin and hair, whereas cold water tightens cuticles and pores which makes our skin and hair appear shiny and healthy.
As you probably know, a hot steamy shower opens up all your pores and lets you get all that crap out of your skin! But, it also leaves your pores open when you step out, allowing all the dirt to make it's way back into your skin once you're out of the shower. If you use cold water, your pores close which prevents them from getting clogged. This can be a drastic help for people who suffer with acne.
Cold showers can also make your hair stronger as it closes the cuticle, which prevents it from falling out.
Also, if you happen to have brightly coloured hair, washing your hair with cold water will also help maintain the colour!

Improves blood circulation

Alternating between hot and cold water during showers is a quick and easy way to improve your blood circulation. This is because of vasoconstriction and vasodilation. These are just fancy words for our arteries and veins constricting and relaxing due to temperatures.
Good circulation can prevent things like hardening of the arteries and the appearance of varicose veins.

Strengthening immune system

Some research and tests have made the discovery that cold showers increase your white blood cell count, meaning a strong immune system. A bit strange how a chilly shower can help prevent you getting a cold! Oh, the irony.

Increased metabolism

Exposure to cold temperatures stimulates the production of cells that burn glucose. This can overall promote weight loss.

Mental health

Some research has discovered that cold water can stimulate the brains main source of noradrenaline. Noradrenaline is the bodies response to stressful situations. This could mean that cold showers could help and prevent depression and anxiety.

All that just for standing under a rush of cold water for a few minutes? Yes please!

WHERE HAVE I BEEN?!

Oh my gosh, I haven't done a blog post in over a month! I feel so guilty that I've abandoned my blog for so long!

I recently went on holiday to Tunisia with my parents to celebrate my 16th birthday, so that's one reason for my absence. I absolutely loved it, the staff at the hotel were so lovely and friendly and the weather was amazing. Thunder storms at night and 40 degrees during the day! Perfect! I also got a MacBook Pro for my birthday so, I'm in the process of getting used to it after using PC for 16 years!

Also, I've started college now. This is my second week into to and to be honest, I'm quite enjoying it. It's a lot easier to get into than I thought it would be. I think I'm settling into my routine pretty nicely :)

Those are the only excuses I have for leaving you guys for this long. Them and pure laziness and bloggers block! But sometimes, I think having a bit of time to yourself is all you need and I'm ready to get back on track with my blog and try to balance it with my college work. I have quite a few posts in mind for you guys so, everything should start running normally again :)

In other news, I'm currently ill. I have the worst sore throat ever, I sound like a man that smokes 50 a day. Not pretty. Doesn't feel too good either, I must say :/

This is just a quicky to let you guys know that I'm back on the blogging scene :)

If there's anything you'd like to see, please do tell me and I'll be more than happy to make it happen! :)

It's good to be back.

Lush group interview 2.0

Today I went for my second group interview at Lush. If you've been following my blog for a while, you'll know that I had a successful interview at Lush back in June and got the the trail shift stage. Unfortunately, I didn't make it past the trail shift and I didn't get the job.

But they are currently looking for Christmas temps as they get ridiculously busy that time of year.
I just wanted to make this post so maybe I can help some people who might have an interview at Lush!

Group interviews can be super scary and I was so nervous when I went to the first interview but honestly, all the people who are at the interview will be just at nervous as you. Also, the people who work there are really friendly and chatty and they know that you're going to be nervous, so they take it easy on you!

I just want to let you know that if you're in the process and doing what I did (scouring the internet for help and information about Lush interviews and trying to prepare), I need to tell you to be prepared for anything and don't go into an interview expecting what you read on the internet.

The reason I say this is because the interview I had today was different to the interview I had in June.

You can read about my June interview here and I'll tell you about my interview today in this post.

So the interview started at 9am, I only just made it in time due to wardrobe malfunctions, traffic and entrance difficulties.

They opened the shutters a couple minutes after 9 and let us all in.

Everyone sat down and one of the interviewers handed me a sticker roll and a pen and told us to write our names on a sticker and then pass them round.

The interviewers introduced themselves and spoke about the job and the expectations.

Then the interview started. The first thing we were told to do is pretend that we were a superhero with one or two powers and were then told to come up and grab some Fun and make our superhero. We were given 10 minutes and then we had to tell the whole group what our super power(s)  were and how they would be helpful.
I made mine have super strength but the whole group had really good ideas like controlling the weather and controlling time.

We were then told to think of our favourite celebrity and pretend that they were our best friend and go shopping round the store for them. Then we had to present what we bought for them and why to the whole group.

Then finally, we had to do a demo.
We either had to do a demo on a message bar or a body butter. They let us go chose what we wanted to demo and then we had to go up to one of the interviewers and demo on them.

Then the interview was over.

Me and this guy were the first to do the demo so while everyone was still choosing what to demo, the assistant manager told me and Jay to grab our stuff and she took us to the side to have a little chat.

She told me she wanted to book me in for a trail shift, we arranged a time, and that was it!

So this interview was completely different to the other I had. But honestly, I kind of enjoyed it. Everyone in the group were super friendly and chatty and lovely and it made it a lot more relaxing and fun.

So, if you have an interview at Lush and that's why you're reading this, good luck!
Don't worry about product knowledge, you don't need that at the interview or trail shift stage. Don't prepare one specific thing because it might not come up. Just be yourself, smile, be chatty and friendly and do your best!

Collective haul! | Fashion & Beauty & Randoms

So, as you can probably tell, we're almost 2 weeks into August and I have yet to do a July favourites. This is because, July was a busy but lazy month all in one and I didn't really try out any new things. I've just been using the same old, same old, so there's not much point in making a July faves on the same things that were in my June faves!

Anyways, I've accumulated a few things since I've last done a haul so I thought I would do a little collective haul and show you what I got! :)

First of, as I mentioned in my last post, I'm going on holiday at the end of this month (super excited!). On my last holiday in Egypt last year, my favourite sandals broke, both pairs would you believe! So since then, I've been sandal less (apart from cheekily borrowing my sisters a couple of times). But I needed some for this holiday as I could walk around Tunisa in my Docs or my Vans with my fancy maxi dresses. That would be an interesting fashion statement! After looking around loads of shops and coming up empty handed, I took to Asos and found these beauties.

Now i'm pretty tall as is it, around 5'9 or 5'10 I think, so even though these are going to make me even taller, I couldn't resist. I think these are going to look gorgeous poking out underneath my maxi dresses and skirt on holiday, and I think they would also look amazing with some skinny jeans when I'm at home. They just look like they could dress anything up! Even though I don't like getting my feet out when I'm at home, I'm deffo a Vans/Dr Martens girl, I think I'm going to get attached to these.

Speaking of not liking to get my feet out when I'm at home, I've been looking for a nice pair of black pumps that I can wear with dresses when I'm home. I had been looking for a pair for quite a while and I don't know why, but every pair I tried on didn't fit! I think maybe my feet have grown a little and I'm in between sizes now, which is annoying as that makes it incredibly difficult to find shoes in normal fashion high street stores like New Look and Dorothy Perkins. Errgh.
But I was with my mum doing the weekly shop at Asda and came across these.

I saw them and thought they looked pretty so I tried them on and hurray! They fit! I instantly bought them as I couldn't leave behind the only pair of black pumps I've come across that fit me in the last couple of months!

While we were in Asda I also spotted this lovely black maxi dress.

It has a fitted top and flares a little just above the hip. It has a fitted black opaque lining underneath as the flarey bit is quite sheer. It has a gold zip detailing at the back of the dress and it's the perfect length for me and I'm just in love with it.

Also from Asda, but more recently (this Saturday actually), I bought this shirt.

It is quite sheer, as you can tell. It's long sleeved which is a little different for me. It's again, quite fitted up until above the hip and then it hangs loosely around the hips and it's a dip hem and covers your bum. I actually bought this for my Lush interview which I have on Thursday, and I really like it. It's smart but casual, I like to think!

Now onto the beauty things!

It's my birthday on the 31st of August, and as I will be on holiday and my sister won't see me, she gave me some money to go shopping and buy myself my birthday presents.
It's been 3 for 2 on a lot of things in Boots a lately, so I took advantage of that!

The first things I bought were 3 of the Maybelline 24 Hour Color Tattoo gel eyeshadows.

Now, I've never tried these before but, as I've heard sooooo many good things about them, (I know Zoella loves these) I went crazy and bought 3!

The colours I got are L-R: Metallic Pomegranate, Pink Gold, On and On Bronze

I'm super excited to try these! I hope they're as good as everyone says they are! *Fingers crossed*

I also bought a Maybelline Colour Sensational lipstick and went to Bourjois for their 3 for 2.

The Maybelline lipstick is really nice. It smells gorgeous and the lasting power of it was quite surprising! I really like the packaging as well, it makes it easy to find the colour you want, especially if you have a big collection of lipsticks!
I bought one of the Bourjois Colour Boost lipsticks (again, thanks Zoella!) in the colour Peach on the Beach, the most adorable name ever!
These definitely do not last 10 hours! The glossiness wears off after around an hour, but the colour does stain the lips for another couple of hours afterwards, so you only have to top up regularly if you want the glossiness!
I basically love these two and I'm glad I bought them!

To finish of the Bourjois 3 for 2, I decided to randomly pick up an eyeliner and a mascara.

I've been wanting to try a felt tip eyeliner for a really long time as I thought it might help me! As you probably know, I'm hopeless at liquid eyeliner, especially the cat eye. I just can't do it! I've tried this really quickly once and to be honest, I'm not blown away by it. But I'm going to have a sit down with it and play around and see what I think!

I've been looking for a drugstore mascara for a while as I don't have a favourite and haven't fallen in love with one yet, so I decided to pick up the Ultra Curl one. Honestly, I picked this one because of the packaging. The purple enticed me!
I've tried this a few times, it doesn't do anything drastic to my lashes, just like any other mascara really, but I've noticed that it doesn't flake or smear one bit, which I really love! Props to it for that!

Now onto randoms which I thought I would include.

I got a new phone case.

How cute is it?! It's dip dyed blue at the top and goes clear to the bottom and is covered in little raindrops. I love it!

I also bought myself a couple of books.

Super excited to read these! Have you read them before? Let me know what you thought if you have. I've heard really good things about both of them!

So that's it for now! My little collective haul!
Have you guys bought anything recently?

Don't forget I'm looking for guest posters while I'm away on holiday!

The duck lords | Chatsworth

This Wednesday, my best friend invited me out for a day at Chatsworth with her family. Now, I had never been to Chatsworth and honestly, didn't know what to expect.
But she had just been on holiday for 11 days and I hadn't seen her for a while, and as my last blog post stated, I wanted to start saying yes and getting out more and see new places and do new things. So, obviously, I took her up on her offer and they came to pick me up 9:45am.

It was about an hours drive to get there and we drove through the countryside and finally got there. Like I said, I'd never been to Chatsworth and didn't know what to expect from it, but it's such a pretty place with loads of cute little cottages that are to die for! It's all so well kept and clean and gorgeous, I loved it.

We first stopped off at a little restaurant (which looked over the valley. So pretty!) for breakfast.

After we ate and had a good old chat, we went to the farm shop.
It was such a lovely shop. It was full of fresh fruit and veg and also fresh goodies, like scones and croissants. It was adorable.

After that, we got back into the car and drove to the grave yard. You're probably thinking how morbid that sounds (I bet it makes you want to hang out with me!) but, there is a history that includes the Kennedy's in Chatsworth, which I never knew about. JFK's sister is buried there and he visited her grave and I got to stand right where JFK did.

There were so many old gravestones in there, it was actually quite fascinating.

These are three of the oldest we found. A pirates, someone who passed away in 1759 and one written in Roman Numerals.

We also found one of a person who passed away this year, aged 103!

This is the gravestone of JFK's sister, Kathleen.

My best friends mum actually explained the history of this to me. Kathleen married William Cavendish, son of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire, who later got killed in the war. Her mother didn't approve of this marriage, but Kathleen then went on to become involved with Peter Fitzwilliam, who was already married. Kathleen's mother was catholic and also didn't approve of this. Kathleen and Peter were going to get married when Peter got divorced but they got killed in a plane crash. Kathleen's parents refused to fly her body back home as she had "disgraced the family", so we was buried in Chatsworth. Only her father showed up to her funeral and JFK later visited it in June 1963, 5 months before he was shot dead in November.

There's a bit of history for you! (That you probably didn't care about).

We then had a wander around inside the church.

The view from the church balcony was beautiful.

We then got back into the car and me and Amie got dropped off near Chatsworth house while the adults went to have a look around the garden centre.

This was probably my favourite part of the day.

Me and Amie sat by the river for the rest of the day.

But we ended up attracting some friends!

Selfies with the ducks

This was one of the oddest things to ever happen to us. A group of ducks literally just came waddling up to us. They came so close to us, it was strange how they weren't scared of us at all!

After a couple of hours we went for a walk down the river.

Selfies with the sheep

We then went up the shop and Amie got a sausage roll to feed to the ducks, and we walked to the other side of the river where most of the sheep were.

It wasn't long before our best friends came waddling back.

We fed them pastry from the sausage roll, and the ducklings even ate from our hands.

Possibly the most adorable thing ever!

I had such a lovely day and I'm so glad I went. Chatsworth is so pretty and open and just lovely.
And it was so nice to have a such a relaxing day with Amie in such a nice, peaceful place like that after not seeing her for so long.

We passed a cute little cottage for sale on the way home, if I happen to find £360,000 laying around, I'll be moving soon!
